The Washington Monument

George Washington’s military and political leadership were essential in the founding of the United States. The Washington monument stands above the city with his name, Washington, D.C. This monument represents George Washington’s greatness. When I was on a Washington, D.C. tour, we stopped at this monument and they stated that this monument stands in no ones shadow, just like the man. That truly makes sense. The monument is not towered by any other buildings, and Washington was the first president, therefore creating the groundwork for a president. When I visited, the elevator was being updated and did not get to go inside. While the outside is astonishing, I would love to go back and ride the elevator to the top of the monument. Everywhere we went around town, you could see the monument. I even took a picture at the Arlington National Cemetery, and the statue was standing tall through the trees. This is a great spot to visit while in Washington, D.C.

This picture was taken from the Lincoln Memorial. I love the reflection on the water!
This was taken at the Arlington National Cemetery. No matter where you are in Washington, the monument always stands out.

World War II Memorial

The World War II Memorial is in Washington, D.C. It is located on the National Mall. It was dedicated in 2004 by President George W. Bush. This memorial honors the 16 million people who served as part of the war, including 400,000 people who sacrificed their lives. While sitting at the fountain, in the middle of the memorial, you can see the Lincoln memorial. This memorial is made up of 56 granite pillars. Each pillar is engraved with one of names of the United States as well as the District of Columbia, Alaska Territory, Territory of Hawaii, Commonwealth of the Philippines, Puerto Rico, Guam, American Samoa, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The Northern arch of the memorial represents the victory in the Atlantic. The Southern arch of the memorial represents the victory in the Pacific. I would highly recommend stopping by and admiring the beauty of this memorial.

The Great Smoky Mountains

This week I want to post about my trip to The Great Smoky Mountains. I recently visited Gatlinburg, TN and drove through the Smokies. The Great Smoky Mountains are a mountain range along the Tennessee and North Carolina border. They are a subrange of the Appalachian Mountains. They are called the Smokies because of the morning fog. These mountains are known for the diversity of plant and animal life. While driving you get to see beautiful views of the mountains and skyline. It was absolutely beautiful. If you are looking for a trip into nature, I suggest visiting The Great Smoky Mountains National Park in Gatlinburg, TN.

This was me on my way into the Great Smoky Mountains.
This was a picture I captured on the way up the mountain. I was shocked at the all the green.
I loved the way the sun was beaming through the trees.
This was a pull off spot on the mountain to capture great views.

What is Travel Education?

Travel education basically defines itself. This is when you plan a trip based on monumental sites, hands on learning opportunities, and a clear objective you want to learn more about.

When traveling, students are able to see and enrich their knowledge of places. This allows students to put into play what they have read about in the classroom.

Studies show that humans obtain a deeper understanding of things in person rather than strictly learning from a book.

In order for people to get a better understanding of the world around them, travel education is the way to go!
